Our Vision
A corporate vision cannot be inward, it must be a vision of the community it serves. We serve a global community. This community is not only going through change, the pace of change is accelerating. What is true today was not true a year ago and it will not be true a year from now.
Traditional institutions, private and public, are ill-prepared to deal with the rapidity of change in the global community. Whether terrorism, a deadly virus, or an economic shock, the response to a threat is much slower than it should be and a heavy price is paid, often in human life. As a result, the vision of many in the global community is clouded by fear of change.
At New Global, as are called informally, we accept the accelerating pace of change as a natural extension of a process that has been underway for centuries, but the acceleration itself only became noticeable in the
lifetime of the average person in the 20th century. Were you on the Internet twelve years ago? Did you even know what the Internet was? Today, more than one billion people have Internet access and 80% of them live outside the US, a quintupling in number and a reversal in percentage from just nine years ago.
In the 21st century, a single lifetime will see more change than a dozen lifetimes in the past. We at New Global believe the first decade of this century will be a critical transition period that will require rapid adaptation if economic development is to outpace the forces threatening it. Linear thinking will not suffice in an exponentially changing world.
In view of the above, New Global approaches its work with respect for traditional methods, but with an emphasis on speed, flexibility, and results. To accomplish this, we stress certain factors:
We hire our personnel on the basis of the proven quality of their work, not on their gender, age, religion, nationality, ethnicity, sexual preference, or any other extraneous factor. However, we insist that, whatever their background, they extend the same respect to the beliefs and customs of others as is extended to them.
We maintain as small a headquarters staff as feasible while always remaining responsive to the needs of our clients, recognizing that the best headquarters is a home office, not a bureaucracy.
We choose the best qualified staff so that we can delegate authority as well as responsibility to the field where the work is done. Only in this way can we hope to keep up with the accelerating pace of change in the nations where we serve. A home office that needs to micro-manage the field needs new management in the home office.
We seek staff who treat their professions as true vocations and not as "just another job". They don't need to be told that the workday begins when the work begins and ends when the work ends.
Although many of our staff are and will be specialists, we will regularly encourage them to be aware of changes in other fields that will affect them and the people they serve, particularly the rapid convergence underway in nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology, and the cognitive sciences.
We recognize from experience that the most important work in global economic development will often occur in difficult environments. We also recognize that the greatest
growth potential for New Global as a business and for the global economy as a whole is also found in these very same environments.
Finally, we understand that we must review our assumptions and our performance every day.
A vision without action is style without substance. To our clients, our partners, and ourselves, we pledge the action to realize this vision.
